This study describes the effects of the insertion of ISAba1 in the intrinsic blaADC gene of an Acinetobacter baumannii isolate showing co-resistance to carbapenems and colistin. Isolate 52971 showed low ceftazidime MIC values due to the disruption of blaADC-195 by this insertion sequence. The introduction of an intact blaADC in isolate 52971 increased ceftazidime MIC. The potential of insertion sequences to inactivate chromosome-encoded resistance determinants should be explored.
