???displayArticle.abstract???
1. The formation of the hyaline substance is prevented by the action of a solution of non-electrolyte. 2. Cell division does not depend upon the presence of hyaline substance or a hyaline layer. 3. The cell bridges arise independently of the hyaline layer. 4. The size and tensile strength of the cell bridges depend upon the concentration of calcium-ion. 5. Although both the hyaline layer and the cell bridges are affected in the same fashion by the lack of calcium-ion, they react differently to a medium slightly hypertonic.
